Coleen’s jewellery range features peace symbol

Posted on: Feb 16, 2009 | 2 Replies |

Coleen Rooney has detonated a row after using the logo of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament for her new jewellery range.

Some of her pendants for budget chain Argos feature the iconic symbol of the anti-war movement. But it appears some folk within CND are angry the millionaire WAG hasn’t made a charitable donation for its use.

The logo isn’t a registered trademark, but a CND source said: “When people use it for their own financial gain it’s the done thing to give some money over – but neither Coleen or Argos have.

“There are people within the organisation who are very annoyed about it. It doesn’t seem fair someone else is making a profit out of it.”

A source close to Coleen, 23, admitted: “She was somewhat under-briefed on the political sensibility.

“She knew the symbol was something to do with peace, but wasn’t sure quite what.

“She would hate to think she had caused offence in any way.”

Four types of pendant, priced from £12.69 to £19.59, bear the CND symbol. Coleen, who was paid £590,000, has also put her name to a selection of watches, rings, earrings and bracelets.

Argos bosses are said to be delighted at the way the jewellery is flying out of their shops after last month’s launch.

  1. Mrs Denise Walker says:

    Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to you on behalf of our charity group “Look Sussex” to ask if you company could kindly donate an item for a charity auction we will be holding in July 2010

Our charity has been going for over 13 years and we are here to help families with a child/children who have a visual impairment (some have additional needs). It can be very frightening and lonely when your child has been diagnosed with a disability. We are here to help those people come to terms with this along with all that having a disabled child involves. We help new families speak to other people who have gone through what they have gone through. We also help the children meet other children like themselves as a lot of our members are in mainstream schools and they can feel very isolated.

On numerous occasions throughout the year we hold get togethers these include trips to parks, museum, picnics, cinema trips, bowling and every year a Christmas party where all children (including siblings) receive a present suitable for there disability.

We are hoping to raise enough money to take all our members away for a weekend, and if we raise enough money we are hoping to start up a fund to enable us to purchase a caravan suitable for use by all our members (including those in a wheelchair).

I hope you will be able to help us to help our members, we all work on a voluntary basis so all monies raised go to them.

I look forward to hearing from you in due course, if you have any question do not hesitate to contact me on the above numbers or my email address.

    Yours truly,

    Registered Charity No. 1105485
We work on a voluntary basis and rely heavily on fundraising and donations
