The bride cried, the guests cheered and the groom looked “sporty but elegant” – that’s according to the official who conducted the marriage of Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin.
With the ceremony concluded and the newlyweds headed off to their reception, he was happy to spill the details.
Mr Costa, himself a former footballer, described the scene as Rooney wed his childhood sweetheart in the 17th century Villa Durazzo amid an unseasonal downpour.
He said: “The table I was standing behind was covered with white silk and there were white rose petals scattered on it.
“Everyone was very emotional and there were a few tears from everyone, especially the bride, but Wayne was very composed.
