Newlyweds Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin were spotted leaving the £80million yacht RM Elegant today after spending their first night together as husband and wife.

The new Mrs Rooney emerged wearing a full length white dress trimmed with a butterfly print, while Wayne followed behind looking quite the obediently as he carried her Christian Louboutin heels.

The couple are expected to make a brief stop in Sardinia before jetting off for a honeymoon on Necker Island, the private Caribbean resort owned by Sir Richard Branson.

The bride cried, the guests cheered and the groom looked “sporty but elegant” – that’s according to the official who conducted the marriage of Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin.

With the ceremony concluded and the newlyweds headed off to their reception, he was happy to spill the details.

Mr Costa, himself a former footballer, described the scene as Rooney wed his childhood sweetheart in the 17th century Villa Durazzo amid an unseasonal downpour.

He said: “The table I was standing behind was covered with white silk and there were white rose petals scattered on it.

“Everyone was very emotional and there were a few tears from everyone, especially the bride, but Wayne was very composed.

Coleen and Wayne have now married and are officially husband and wife, the mayor of Portofino has confirmed. Congratulations to the happy couple!! She is now Mrs. Coleen Rooney! The Daily Mail has the scoop:

Wayne and Coleen became Mr and Mrs Rooney in a twenty-minute civil ceremony on the Italian Riviera. The service took place in Villa Durazzo in the town of Santa Margherita Ligure.

In front of just eight close family and friends they were married by deputy mayor Gianni Costa. Both had a male and a female witness respectively. Mr Costa said: ‘It was a simple ceremony with around 15 people inside, mostly family. The bride looked lovely in white and the groom wore a brown suit with no tie.

Coleen and Wayne have completed the first stage of their Italian nuptials by signing the paperwork allowing them to marry. The couple attended the town hall in the coastal resort of Santa Margherita, outside Portofino, earlier today.

There they signed a sworn declaration of intent, or Promessa di Matrimonio, before a civil registrar.

Coleen and Wayne will hold their wedding reception on a £40million yacht. The couple will marry in Italy on Thursday and have forked out £300,000 to hire the boat, called the Alysia.

‘The main ceremony will be low-key and very intimate, so they wanted a really spectacular reception and after-party,’ says a source.

‘The yacht is the perfect party venue and really luxurious.’
